Mural Mention#1 - Under the Wilkes County Sun
North Wilkesboro now has Tuscany scenes shown by the mural "Under the Wilkes County Sun" created by way of 11 Wilkes County
high school students in the Wilkes Art Gallery’s Summer Honors Art Program. Students were working with local artist
Ronnie Carruthers, and gallery intern, Rebecca Catrett.
The mural was painted on a retaining wall in the parking lot adjacent to Branciforte Brick Oven on Main Street, North Wilkesboro.
Carruthers and Kara Minton-Elmore, executive director for the gallery, worked closely with the students to
come up with the design on the wall.
Danny and Stephanie Branciforte, owners of Branciforte, was also involved in the design. The centerpiece is a fountain, much
like one Branciforte’s family built in Leonforte, Italy, hundreds of years ago in the Tuscany area.
The fountain is still in the italian village and is an area landmark, much like creators hope this mural will become
in North Wilkesboro. The mural has combined the fountain found
in Italy with Wilkes landscapes using typically warm and vivid Tuscany colors. - Location: 208 9th Street
